The Affordable Care Act

by Tor Dahl

I was listening to the campaign about defunding Obamacare. Repeal and replace, is the motto. Since no plan has been proposed for replacing the Affordable Care Act, it means that nothing will change.

If we continue with the same 8.5% annual price increases we had with the old system, health care will consume the entire US Gross National Product in 2060. In addition we'll see the same rules for pre-existing conditions re-emerge and make health care unaffordable for many Americans, 2/3 of all bankruptcies will continue to be caused by unpaid medical bills, coverage may be may be canceled at will by insurers, limits will be stipulated for annual and total coverage, and 30 million people will join the growing ranks of the uninsured.

Why in the world would we want to continue a system which is twice as expensive as the second most expensive system in the world, but with far worse outcomes?
